Artist's Statement

I construct situations in which sound, light, material, and the body alter one another. A viewer’s distance, movement, and touch pass through processes of sensing and translation, becoming shifts in sound and image. The work brings the relations that emerge through this process into the space as an experience.

The Intuition series begins with moss, stone, wind, and water encountered in Iceland. Using hanji, electric paint, and field recordings, I bring the density of a landscape sensed through touch and the body into installation. In Three Pieces, polycarbonate, copper, line, and wire form structures in which sound, light, and physical contact call one another into being. In The voice of stripes, striped garments are read as data—point, line, interval, and repetition—and translated into a graphic score and algorithmic composition.

Rather than appearing as a completed form, the work produces different relations with each viewer’s intervention. Approaching, touching, lingering, and passing through alter the states of sound and light, becoming part of the work. Sound extends beyond listening into light, vibration, and changes across a surface. Through these sensory shifts, I create brief conditions of unfamiliar perception within familiar space.
